Software Reviews: Image editing software Adobe Photoshop -Software for editing any type of photo or image. Can handle any type of graphic and is compatible with both Mac and PC. This program is very difficult to use if you do not have a lot of time to learn all of the buttons and features. I suggest that someone who wants to use this program should take a class to learn how to use it. I have used 5.5, 6.0, 7.0, and CS. If you hare not a professional then 5.5 is pretty much the same as CS. Bryce- This program is
designed to create a 3d landscape. It is compliant with most image editing
software but is harder to use and is for the intermediate to advanced
user. Adobe Illustrator- This
program is designed for commercial logos and vector images. When an
image is printed from illustrator it is designed to be smooth without
any rough pixel edges. Microsoft's FrontPage-This software is designed for creating web pages. This program has is a good tool for the beginner. FrontPage is very user friendly and has any feature any user would want to add to their page and it is included in some of the office packages. One good thing about FrontPage is that it has its own built in extensions that most web servers support. Macromedia Dreamweaver MX-This software is designed for creating web pages. New interface follows flash mx. This program has alot of features but is created for the more advanced user. You can easily incorporate flash, java, and easily manipulate your tables. This program is based more on html and can be very difficult for the beginner to understand its features. Dreamweaver 8 has been released. I will have an update when I use it more. Netscape Editor-This program is
free with Netscape. This program is very user friendly and is created
for the beginning. It doesn't have many advanced features but it is
perfect for any beginner and will save money because it's free.
Windows Mac OS X- This is the best operating system created so far by any company. It is based on Unix, which makes it safe and reliable. This is the most efficient and effective operating system designed for public use. Windows does not compare to this. If this operating system were made for the PC there would not be Microsoft. Too bad apple gave up trying to compete. Linux- This operating system is Unix based for the PC. It allows the user to modify its interface to fit their needs and its free. It looks a lot like windows and is compatible with some of its programs but it is not perfect. It also has its own versions of programs like Office. This operating is free and can run on your system the same time that you have windows if you want to try it. So it will not destroy or erase your windows operating system. You can try this and if you don't like it you can erase it much like a program. You can get Redhat Linux here. Internet Explorer 6.0- This browser is very much like 5.5 but is more stable. It supports java, CSS, and Flash. It is a good browser and is user friendly. Netscape 7.0- This operating system is nice and is very similar to internet explorer 6.0. It supports both support java, CSS, and Flash. If you have a windows operating system I suggest you should use this browser because more viruses are targeted at IE. Firefox - I use this as my primary browser. It is the same on both mac and pcs. I really like the tab feature. Safari - I have had so many problems with this browser. Java and Flash do not seem to work but a few of my friends have had good experiences so I think it may have been the computer I was using. Coldfusion- Coldfusion is very simple to use and learn if you know HTML. The language makes sense as it is very similar to html because it has opening and closing tags. Coldfusion mx (the latest version) has full flash support as they are both owned by Macromedia. PHP-This language is more difficult to learn than coldfusion. The advantage to this program is that it is free and coldfusion can cost in the thousands to own a copy for yourself. Flash MX- This program is designed
by macromedia and creates animation, great movies, and authoring programs.
If you have seen an interactive website or website with movement, it
was most likely developed in Flash. click here
for trial. XML-A programming language similar to html but is completely made up so that you can transfer information from one platform to another. Toolbook-This program is similar to powerpoint but has functionality and a scripting language called openscript that allows the user to control what their 'books' are doing. View Example (*note that you need nureon plugin and flash player to play this, links for them are on the home page)
